Opium Sunset

Opium Sunset…

Crimson Dragon stretched across azure blue sky
We thought we’d live forever
We thought we’d never die
We thought we could drink our fill
Without ever feeling the devils evil chill

But time went so fast
And we didn’t know it couldn’t last
Didn’t know that the die was cast and set
As the sun went down on our glorious opium sunset
Yeah life just faded into our glorious opium sunset

Good times we had laid back on the grass
Long summer evenings and whisky by the glass
Chasing the dragons arc and listening to no noise
Our unconscious minds flying
As we drifted into that bright blank void

Time speeded up and the years passed so fast
Like the sand falling through a broken hour glass
We didn’t know that it couldn’t last
We didn’t know our lives were a mess
As we faded away down into that glorious opium sunset
Yeah deep down into that crimson screeching sunset

We three were young fit and beautiful
And didn’t know that pride comes before a fall
We forgot about the foolish rotten world
Where love was just a single silly little word
As we sucked our way into that lazy crazy void

Pipe smoke spiralled and the jets passed languidly overhead
As we lay back and admired that wonderful opium sunset
A cool breeze off the sea to freshen our rancid breath
As we drank and we smoked into that glorious crimson stretch
The dragon turning lilac and orange, the evening warm and fresh

Time was our friend but it went away too fast
The more we drank – the more we sucked
We didn’t know that it couldn’t last
Didn’t know that the devils die was cast
Didn’t know that the devil was coming fast

As we laughed and spat in the eye of a rotten stinking world
We just wanted friendship and the joy of a kind word
Where the true love of friends and the warmth of their laughter
Would lead us far away from the nightmare visions of lurid bloody slaughter
And make us forget we were really the devils sons and daughter

The opium smoke we sucked delivered a rosy crimson hue
The whisky we drank illuminated its own golden view
The wine flowed like water and left our brows damp with sweat
And the devil finally made his penultimate conquest
Under cover of his gloriously manufactured opium sunset

A dark wraith he appeared under cover of the night
To his fantastically twisted body and distorted mind
We three were oblivious and blind
Time went so fast but the devil was faster still
And touched everybody with his evil winter chill
Yeah touched everybody with his dark dank chill
And made us all bend to his twisted evil will.
